Since our beginning in 1997, 24th Street Theatre has been a leader in Arts Education by providing field trips, theatre intensives, professional theatre for young audiences, theatre programs for at-risk teens, and professional development for teachers. 24th Street Theatre is a unique organization blending professional productions and world class artists with Arts Education. We are one of the only professional Los Angeles theatres offering after school programming. Our educational programming is overseen by director/educator Debbie Devine, who also heads the drama department at the prestigious Colburn School of Performing Arts and is certified by the Los Angeles County Arts Education Training Program.
Program
24th Street’s plan is simple: TO ENGAGE YOUR STUDENTS and ENRICH THEIR EDUCATION THROUGH THEATRE! 24th Street Theatre’s core program is Enter Stage Right. It begins with a pre-field trip, on-your-feet theatre workshop in your school. Students and teachers then take a field trip to LA’s most charming professional theatre for an interactive, live theatre performance that students will never forget! In-school residencies are also available for an in depth theatre arts experience with 24th Street's teaching artists. Professional Development Workshops at 24th Street can be selected from a "menu" of courses, or can be custom designed to address specific needs. After years of experience in Professional Development with classroom teachers, artists and administrators, our PD programs give participants real tools that allow them to boldly use art in all areas of the curriculum. VAPA and English-Language Arts Content Standards are incorporated in all phases of the program.
