Bethune Theatredanse is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization whose dance outreach program, “Infinite Dreams” utilizes art to transcend the perceived limitations of disabled children and youth. Bethune Theatredanse has a 25-year un-interrupted history and expertise in providing a professional-led, classroom-based, performing arts instructional program in ‘theatredanse’ for special needs students.
Program
Bethune Theatredanse’s “Infinite Dreams” dance outreach program is a professional-led, classroom-based, performing arts program for special needs students. The program is a 32-week, 26-hour dance curriculum in a workshop format. The "Infinite Dreams" program improves such skills as comprehension, memorization and teamwork. “Infinite Dreams” graduates report improved levels of self esteem, self expression and confidence; school attendance and academic performance; family functioning and communication; and improved access to and utilization of support services in the community. The curriculum addresses each special education student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) in consultation with parents, and when appropriate with each student. Example Activity: Dance of Shapes - an imagination-based warm-up, multi-level exercise within a lesson that is based on students’ interpretation of shapes through creative movement. See grade 4 standards for activity below.
