Collage Dance Theatre (CDT) was founded in 1985 by Artistic Director Heidi Duckler. The company’s first site-specific performance, “Laundromatinee,” was presented in the Thriftiwash Laundromat in Santa Monica. Since then CDT has presented over 40 performances in public spaces ranging from “Mother Ditch” in the Los Angeles River, to “subVersions” in the historic Los Angeles Subway Terminal. Following a trajectory increasingly interdisciplinary and collaborative, CDT incorporates text, video and original composition to produce works that integrate community experiences with professional performance. The company strives to include some specific service, to the youth of Los Angeles with each major project. |

Students are given the oppportunity to share their backgrounds and specific interests to team together and create a site specific performance. This program uses Collage Dance Theatre's original approach to collaborative dance making; integrating movement and environment. Students choose the school site (library, cafeteria, locker room, hallway, gym, etc.) and work concept through production. Instruction in dance, music, text, costume and video make up the raw materials through which students can uncover and express their views, concerns and perceptions. Residency culminates in a site specific performance.
