backgroundStandards & Learning
Flights of Fantasy Media Company has provided interactive storytelling performances and workshops for twelve years. They have shared their innovative versions of multi-cultural folktales and fables at elementary schools, libraries and festivals to help children develop concrete literacy and communication skills. Audiences have seen them at the L. A. Times Festival of Books, Connections for Children Literacy Festival, Cerritos Performing Arts Festival, and L.A. Kids Read. They have also worked with schools in Los Angeles, Pasadena, Glendale and Burbank and are members of the Arts Community Partnership Network in L.A. In addition, Flights of Fantasy provides storytimes and shows for Head Start with the Early Literacy Readiness Project.
program
Flights of Fantasy provides a comprehensive Theatre Arts Package for students, parents and teachers. The 24 Student Workshops are offered with two options and take the students from audience member to performer by the last workshop. The students explore theatre strategies and activities that will help them conceptualize ideas, form opinions and communicate effectively while building self-esteem. The 2 Parent Workshops discuss the impact reading aloud has on the academic success of your child and the importance of parent involvement. Reading aloud techniques are demonstrated to illustrate successful ways to engage your child. The Teacher’s Workshop focuses on integrating theatre strategies into everyday teaching methods which enhances cognitive development across academic disciplines.
